Ukraine in 2002 acceded to the Convention of 1951 and the 1967 Protocol. According to the Law of Ukraine “On refugees and persons in need of additional or temporary protection” from 08.07.2011 number 3671-VI (hereinafter – the Law) of Ukraine provides protection to foreign citizens and stateless persons who seek it in its territory, by:
- refugee status;
- recognition of a person in need of additional protection;
- recognition of persons in need of temporary protection.
The refugee certificate or identity card of a person which requires additional protection is valid for five years.
A person recognized as a refugee, the person in need of additional protection which are under sixteen years of age are eligible to receive a travel document for traveling abroad in accordance with the laws of Ukraine.
